How to Connect to Another Plane at JFK Airport

Jul 30, 2009 09:31 PM

This is very easy! Follow the signs, read the arrival/departure information to find out gate information, and if all else fails, ask someone who works there for assistance!

Get off the plane and step into the JFK airport.

Look around for those big electronic departure/arrival signs with all the gate information on them. These are posted pretty much everywhere, and if you can't find one, ask someone who works there to point you to one.

Look at the part that says "departures." Find your destination city. There should be an airline, a flight number, a departure time, and a gate number listed along with the city name. Make a mental (or, if you must, a pen-and-paper) note of the gate number for your connecting flight.

Look around you to see where you are. Are you close to your desired gate number? If yes, proceed to your desired gate and wait for your flight to board. If not, look at the signs. These will tell you where the gates are located. Follow the arrows until you have reached your desired gate. If you get lost, ask someone who works there for help.

Tips

  • Look at the signs. This means looking UP as you are wandering through the airport.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to find your gate. It might be farther away than you think. Don't waste two hours of your 135-minute layover reading magazines at the newsstand and then run to your gate, only to find you've missed your flight.
  • When in doubt, ask someone for help. There are plenty of airport employees who have spent much more time at that airport than you have. If you can't find an employee, try asking a fellow passenger. Many people have already figured out this whole flying thing and will be able to point you in the right direction.

Things You'll Need

  • Boarding pass for the connecting flight
  • Carry-on, if you brought one
  • Passport, if you're flying international
